When the Monks Come to Town
A mysterious Buddhist organization recently arrived on Prince Edward Island with millions of dollars and a taste for organic farming. The monks and their followers are friendly—until you start asking too many questions.

Five years ago, a bunch of Buddhist monks from Taiwan moved into the old Lobster Shanty in Montague, Prince Edward Island and made it their home. At first, there were only four of them, but more kept coming, scores filling up the defunct hotel. They were very friendly, and they wore their orange robes, of course, and mostly everyone thought it was nice enough and a good idea and all that. Some of the things they did, such as buying live lobsters from the Atlantic Superstore and releasing them back into the ocean, seemed odd, but what harm could come of it?..............
一個神秘的佛教團體 最近帶著 數百萬加幣 [ @2017年加註: 1 加元= 22.1361台幣, 這個數百萬加幣,還是2013年6月, 加拿大記者的一個大約估算, 也就是實際上, 應該不只這個錢數吧!]
以及有機農作的經驗，抵達愛德華王子島。這些僧侶和信徒態度友好，直到我們開始問太多問題……
五年前（譯註：即2008年），一群來自台灣的僧侶來到位於愛德華王子島上，一個叫Montague的城鎮（譯註：Montague是愛德華王子島上人口最多的城鎮）裡的一個鄉村旅館Lobster Shanty，並住了下來。起初，只有4個，後來陸陸續續有更多僧侶 來到這個倒閉的旅館。當時這些穿著橘黃僧袍的僧侶們 還算友好，大多數居民也認為這樣子 沒什麼不好。像是他們會去大西洋超市買活龍蝦，並放生到大海，這行為看起來有點怪，但好像也沒造成什麼傷害。
本來這可能只是一件單純的事情，但接著又有更多僧侶不斷地出現，到今天大約已有250個僧侶（譯註：當時是2013年）。不久，他們建立了自己的品牌—位於Little Sands（往南約一個半小時車程，一個在海邊、遊客罕至之隱蔽地方）的新寺院 。.
他們帶來一些夥伴（或合夥人），後者散開，開始奔赴各農村，去購買沒人會買的物業。佛教徒談到有機農業，並談及在台灣的連鎖店。這些僧侶並不符合愛德華王子島民先前的預期。.....

…>因為福智在加拿大的大覺佛學院(GEBIS), 在2008-2013/4年,給島民的印象,是一群怪異的土豪,且島民開始對他們好奇地想要探究,乃至漸次想排斥下,GEBIS 不得不在2015年與2016年,趕快"開放僧院" 即邀請島民參觀GEBIS的新僧院, 與積極的濟貧,且熱烈地參與島上的各類社團活動. 如 聖誕節還要製作”聖誕薑餅屋”的辦餐會等.
或許這1-2年GEBIS的敦親睦鄰,做得太完美與徹底,以加拿大P島的各大報紙或媒體,都對GEBIS,有正面的讚賞報導,因此,GEBIS在2017年,就開始不開放給島民觀看"土豪"的內幕了嗎?
不然,為何原訂在2017年5月13/14的"開放僧院"之參觀活動,會這樣匆忙地取消啊!

Our annual GEBIS Open House originally scheduled on May 13th and 14th, 2017 will regrettably be canceled.
The monastery has a busy line-up of internal events and programs and unfortunately will not be able to host the Open House
but are continuing to explore the best time for the event.
For any further updates or information please check GEBIS on a regular basis.
We are excited to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Canada which includes many events throughout 2017 while continuing to provide our community outreach programs.
Thank you for your tremendous interest in this event and continued long term support.
